My Story
Having danced from the age of 3-18, I have always loved movement and music and discovered yoga in my early twenties when it became the ‘fashionable’ way to exercise. Very quickly I began attending classes as often as I could; before work, during lunch breaks, after work (not all on the same day!). What started out as purely exercise, quickly turned into an hour's respite, a time to breathe, an opportunity to connect with my body, to be present, to quiet my overactive (but very normal) busy mind. It didn’t take long for me to realise that yoga was so much more than flexibility and strength. Hundreds of hours of teacher training later, including Ashtanga-vinyasa, vinyasa, yin, anatomy, meridian theory, I am still learning and am constantly amazed by all the things we can (and often can’t) do on the yoga mat and why. In January 2016 Balance & Blossom was born and I began teaching many wonderful local yogis, many of whom I am still teaching today!
My Approach
My classes are most definitely not about getting into a specific shape with strict alignment rules; the emphasis is on finding a way that the posture and the practice can work for your unique body.
I have many years experience teaching students of all levels from total beginners through to advanced practitioners. During every class you will hear me offer variations that allow you to modify postures according to your individual flexibility, physical limitations, injuries or just general energy level on the day. My depth of understanding, warm and inclusive approach helps the student to safely explore the postures and the practice and learn to develop a more comfortable way to move and breathe.
